The International Canoe Federation was seeking a production partner to deliver the host broadcast and world feed coverage from the 2023 Canoe Slalom World Championships at the Lee Valley Water Park in East London, UK. Sunset+Vine won the production contract and assembled a team and technical solution to provide three days of live coverage from the event in September 2023. We brought together an international cast of experts to provide robust but innovative coverage.
Sunset+Vine’s technical and production management teams worked with the ICF’s broadcast manager to develop a technical solution that provided 13 course cameras and a ‘kiss & cry’ post-race shore camera. The course cameras included superslomo, in-water minicameras, and a jib covering both the crowds and on-course action. The coverage also provided for replays and analysis for the onsite commentary team.
Three days of production included coverage of both Kayaking [one paddle, two blades] and Canoeing [one paddle, one blade] world championships as well as Kayak Cross where four competitors start together from a raised starting ramp much like Snowboard Cross.
British Canoeing were generous in their praise for Sunset+Vine’s host broadcast coverage which was a successful collaboration between S+V as host broadcaster but also the ICF and their broadcast management team. It was a new departure for many members of our team who are excited to push their ideas further in the future.
