Baseball United want to create the first ever professional baseball league in South Asia and the Middle East, with the aim of inspiring two billion new fans to fall in love with baseball.
Sunset+Vine were hired to broadcast a proof-of-concept event with two matches between two All Star teams playing each other over two nights in Dubai. They were going to be transmitting the broadcast to over 100 countries and they wanted it to feel like top end baseball coverage in the US, but with increased access to the players.
The production quality of the broadcast received industry wide praise with high quality coverage broadcasting on both linear and digital platforms in over 100 countries around the world, with a household reach over 200 million.
Our baseball player microphones gave viewers real access to the players on the pitch including, for the first time ever in baseball coverage, our commentary team speaking to a batter whilst they were at bat.
To make sure the broadcast felt authentic, we brought a US graphics company to look after not just the baseball match graphics but also the AR Strike Zone which is now commonplace in baseball broadcasting.
As Baseball United created a baseball field at the Dubai Cricket stadium, we worked with NEP Singapore to make sure we had the right cameras in the right positions, for what was a new sport to them, and to create a number of earpieces and microphones we could put on the players. A US producer, director and lead cameraman were supplemented by an international production crew to give the production a US know how with an international feel.
